Emmer Wheat

Between 19th October and 15th November 2023, we sowed 60kg of Emmer wheat seed by hand acorss 0.7 acres at our dedicated ancient farm site at Whetstone Pastures. It took a total of 141 person-hours to do this, and by the time we had finished sowing, the earlier seeds had already germinated. By the middle of December, the whole patch had germinated. We will report on the progress of the crop here, and if all goes to plan it will be harvested in July. We will experiment with self-made sickles, and various harvesting and processing techniques including the use of an original Iron Age quern stone for grinding the wheat! Check back for regular updates.
